Project Costs

       The 92-mile system is estimated to cost $7+ billion to construct, in current dollars. Approximately 24 percent of this cost is for the system elements - vehicles, communications, propulsion, and operation control. The cost of the monorail guideway is about $3 billion, or 43 percent of the total cost. Stations, yards and shops, right-of-way, and other civil works comprise the remainder of the project costs.

       A preliminary financial plan has been prepared based upon current cost estimates and proposed funding sources. The financial plan indicates the feasibility of funding project construction and operating costs from operating revenues, with the assistance of loans and loan guarantees made available under the federal Transportation Infrastructure Financing and Innovation Act (TIFIA).

       Additional engineering and environmental analysis may result in adjustments to all cost and revenue estimates.
